Binamulya Samajik Suraksha Yojana (BSSY) is a landmark social security scheme by the West Bengal government for workers in the unorganized sector. Since 2020, the scheme has been “Binamulya” (Free), meaning the state government pays the worker’s share of the premium, making it zero-cost for the beneficiary.
Key Benefits
- Provident Fund (PF): The government contributes ₹30 per month to the worker’s account. Upon reaching age 60, the worker receives the full amount with interest.
- Health Benefits:
- Up to ₹20,000 per year for hospitalization expenses for the worker and their family.
- Up to ₹60,000 per year for major surgeries or critical illnesses.
- Death & Disability Cover:
- Accidental Death: ₹2,00,000 for the family.
- Natural Death: ₹50,000 for the family.
- Total Disability: ₹2,00,000 for the worker.
- Educational Assistance: Annual scholarships for the worker’s children ranging from ₹4,000 (Class 11) to ₹30,000 (Medical/Engineering/Post-Graduation).
Eligibility Criteria
- Age: 18 to 60 years.
- Residency: Permanent resident of West Bengal.
- Occupation: Must be a worker in one of the 60+ identified unorganized sectors (e.g., construction, transport, tailoring, small-scale shops, etc.).
- Income: Monthly family income must be below ₹15,000.
How to Apply
- Online: Apply through the official Samajik Suraksha Portal.
- Offline: Visit your local Block Development Office (BDO) or Municipal Office.
- Duare Sarkar: You can apply at any Duare Sarkar camp held in your locality.
- Samajik Mukti Card: Once your application is approved, you will receive a Samajik Mukti Card, which serves as your identity for all scheme benefits.
